Dhaka, Nov 2 – On Sunday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called on party leaders and supporters to enhance their online presence and leverage modern technology to disseminate the party’s message to people both within the country and overseas.
“The conflict today takes place in the digital realm. It’s no longer about the number of speeches you give or the rallies you organize. The key is how many people you can connect with online,” he stated during the launch of the BNP’s international membership collection and renewal campaign, alongside its new online payment system, at a city hotel.
Fakhrul admitted that numerous high-ranking officials are not very acquainted with contemporary technology.
“our generation is somewhat less knowledgeable in this area. my grandson has a much better understanding of how to utilize these digital tools than i do. however, i believe the younger generation will carry this effort forward with more passion and assist in disseminating the party’s message to others,” he said.
The head of the BNP urged all party leaders to rapidly embrace digital tools, as this is the era of technology.
“We don’t have a choice but to rapidly acquire technology and advance in this digital age. I have no doubt in stating that we are somewhat behind in this aspect. I call on all our party leaders at every level to take individual responsibility so that we can progress digitally and achieve genuine advancement in this area,” he said.
Fakhrul also highlighted the significance of backing the acting chairman’s online initiatives. “When our chairman shares something, we need to interact with it – like, share, and leave comments. This is how we can demonstrate solidarity and enhance our digital outreach.”
He acknowledged the party’s acting chairman for initiating the digital membership and payment gateway project, and conveyed his hope that, under Tarique Rahman’s guidance, BNP will keep progressing through the strength of technology.
The leader of the BNP stated that the month of November holds great importance for their party, as 50 years ago, on November 7, 1975, a revolution led by soldiers and the general public occurred. “This revolution marked the entry of our party’s founder and the builder of modern Bangladesh, the proclaimer of independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, into politics.”
He mentioned that the revolution altered the trajectory of Bangladesh’s history. “Upon Ziaur Rahman taking control, the nation started to change. We witnessed a fresh Bangladesh arise. He liberated the country from the one-party BAKSAL regime and introduced a multi-party democratic structure,” Fakhrul stated.
The leader of the BNP also stated that Zia guaranteed media and judicial independence, paving the way for democracy and economic changes.
He mentioned that Ziaur Rahman transformed Bangladesh’s economy from closed to open and market-oriented in just three and a half years. “Later, Begum Khaleda Zia reinforced democracy by shifting from a presidential system to a parliamentary one,” he stated.
Denying allegations that BNP is against changes, Fakhrul stated, “This is a calculated propaganda. In reality, BNP was the first to initiate reforms and strive for creating a modern Bangladesh.”
