Amazon has introduced Nova Premier, the most sophisticated model in its Nova series, aimed at tackling advanced AI tasks with enhanced accuracy and scale. Now available via Amazon Bedrock, the company’s fully managed platform for AI development, Nova Premier supports text, image, and video processing (though it does not support audio).
According to Amazon, Nova Premier is designed to handle complex workflows that involve deep contextual understanding, multi-step task planning, and coordinated use of multiple tools and data sources.
The Nova model family was originally launched during AWS re:Invent 2023, and Amazon has since broadened the lineup with models capable of generating multimedia content, processing audio, and acting as intelligent agents for various tasks.
One of Nova Premier’s defining features is its context window of 1 million tokens — enabling it to process approximately 750,000 words in a single prompt. However, when it comes to benchmark tests like SWE-Bench Verified for coding, and STEM-related evaluations such as GPQA Diamond and AIME 2025, it lags behind leading models like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro.
Despite this, Nova Premier shines in specific domains. Amazon reports strong results in knowledge retrieval tasks (SimpleQA) and visual understanding benchmarks (MMMU), showcasing its capabilities in those areas.
In terms of cost, Nova Premier is priced competitively:
- $2.50 per million input tokens
- $12.50 per million output tokens
This puts it in the same ballpark as Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro, which costs slightly more for outputs.
Unlike some newer models such as OpenAI’s o4-mini or DeepSeek’s R1, Nova Premier is not optimized for step-by-step reasoning or self-verification. It doesn’t spend extra time validating its answers.
Instead, Amazon envisions Nova Premier as a foundation model for distillation — an ideal teacher model to train smaller, faster models tailored for specific enterprise needs.
Amazon’s growing focus on AI is clear. CEO Andy Jassy recently revealed that the company is building over 1,000 generative AI tools, with revenue from AI growing at triple-digit annual rates and contributing to a multi-billion-dollar yearly revenue run rate.
