ADNOC has collaborated with SLB and Cognite to implement an AI-driven platform for production optimization throughout its upstream activities, seeking to enhance efficiency and improve decision-making as part of its initiative to be the world’s most AI-integrated energy company.

The announcement, produced at ADIPEC 2025 in Abu Dhabi, signifies the beginning of a step-by-step implementation across all 25 of ADNOC’s onshore and offshore oil and gas fields by 2027.

The AiPSO platform, driven by SLB’s Lumi data and AI system along with Cognite Data Fusion, combines millions of live data points from wells and processing plants. It leverages sophisticated analytics and custom machine learning models created by ADNOC to forecast problems, improve efficiency, and boost output.

Operating at eight ADNOC sites, AiPSO links office and field activities in real time, allowing engineers to identify problems and enhance well performance in minutes—tasks that once required days. According to ADNOC, this has led to a significant boost in employee productivity and operational effectiveness.

AIPSO will boost the efficiency of our upstream operations as we aim to be the most AI-driven energy company,” said Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC’s Upstream division. “This cutting-edge solution will aid our strategy to expand production capacity while greatly improving employee productivity by allowing them to focus on high-value activities and finish complex tasks up to ten times quicker.

For SLB, the project highlights its approach of merging artificial intelligence with its extensive industry knowledge to enhance performance and recovery outcomes for energy companies worldwide. “The AiPSO platform exemplifies SLB’s goal of uniting artificial intelligence with industry expertise to achieve better results in production and recovery,” said SLB CEO Olivier Le Peuch.

The collaboration builds upon ADNOC’s expanding range of digital projects, such as ENERGYai, an agent-based AI system created in partnership with AIQ, aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability throughout ADNOC’s operations. AiPSO and ENERGYai together reflect a larger initiative to establish ADNOC as a pioneer in industrial AI, supporting the UAE’s national plan to utilize AI for economic development and energy advancement.

The effort takes place against the backdrop of a larger worldwide movement by oil and gas companies to digitalize their upstream activities. AI-powered optimization is becoming more widely used to handle intricate field networks, minimize interruptions, and prolong the lifespan of assets—important objectives as companies aim to meet energy needs while maintaining efficiency and reducing emissions.

Through this launch, ADNOC has become one of the pioneering national oil companies to implement AI-powered production optimization throughout its entire upstream operations, establishing a new standard for extensive digital transformation within the energy industry.
