Today’s Connections answers

So, what are the current Connections answers for game #878?

Drumroll, please…

  • ๐ŸŸจ Create a mess of:Blow, botch, butcher, spoil
  • ๐ŸŸฉ Weapons featured in the game Clue:Candlestick, knife, rope, wrench
  • ๐ŸŸฆ Iconic soul singers: Baker, flack, franklin, knight
  • ๐ŸŸช Rain ____: Bow, coat, forest, maker

Forgetting that today’s puzzle was considered more challenging, I made an initial attempt by using the obvious butcher, baker, candlestick, maker set in the corner. Occasionally, these very straightforward sets are correct in lower-rated puzzles, but it turned out to be a mistake here.

That being said, the strike was beneficial because I was aware this set would be divided among the other groups.

The candlestick was my initial stop, and the wrench hinted at the board game aspect. The knife and rope were easily found afterward.

I then approached the baker, where I was brainstorming names. That’s why I chose Franklin and Knight. The only other term that fit for me here was Flack, as “butcher” and “maker” would be part of different sets. At this stage, I wasn’t thinking about soul singers, so I wasn’t considering the famous Roberta Flack. For some reason, my mind kept associating it with Bela Fleck, the banjo player. Unfortunately.

Staying with jobs, I chose a butcher and obtained the yellow set featuring blow, botch, and spoil.

I finished today’s puzzle with Rainbow, raincoat, rainforest, and rainmaker.

Yesterday’s Connections answers

  • ๐ŸŸจ Steer: Direct, drive, guide, pilot
  • ๐ŸŸฉ Thin layer: Coat, film, leaf, sheet
  • ๐ŸŸฆ File extensions: Doc, mid, tiff, zip
  • ๐ŸŸช ____ Guitar: Air, electric, rhythm, slide

Reading this from a later time zone? Here are the Connections answers for game #877, which was rated 2.8 out of 5 in difficulty, according to theConnections Companion.

Today was strange for me, mainly because I became mentally trapped by a few terms that weren’t actually present.

First, I selected the yellow one using “drive,” “guide,” “direct,” and “pilot.” This came after I attempted to create a Google products group with “drive,” “doc,” “sheet,” and “slide.” However, apart from “drive,” the rest are pluralized.

Next, electric suggested to me as a guitar, which led me to air guitar, then slide, and ultimately rhythm.

For a time, I stopped considering the .tiff file format and instead focused on the Toronto International Film Festival, which I couldn’t shake as I worked through the puzzle.

What helped me today was working on the yellow and purple sections. With zip and doc, I finally remembered tiff. I only selected mid because it matched the format better than the other options.

I wasn’t aware of .mid, having only encountered the longer .midi format. It seems that .mid is a leftover from Windows 95 and is rarely used nowadays.

I concluded it with coat, film, leaf, and sheet.

Tips for Connections โ€” how to succeed at Connections

There are two methods for playing Connections: either discover the answers as you work through them or tackle the most challenging group, Purple, first.

Regardless of your approach, the top advice I can offer is to not hesitate to use the shuffle feature, particularly if you’ve completed a set but are sure it doesn’t belong to the Purple group. You can keep shuffling the grid until your solved quartet is in a more isolated section.

For the purple group, you can anticipate encountering several categories: words missing a letter, homophones, words with particular suffixes or prefixes, and [blank] word (or word [blank]). There are additional types, but these make up the majority. It can be beneficial to search for purple connections through one of these perspectives.

If you aren’t specifically searching for purple, the top suggestion I can offer is to focus on smaller links. For instance, Riddler and Joker are adversaries of Batman. After you’ve paired those two together, it becomes simpler to identify another group.

In conclusion, be cautious of pitfalls. Sometimes, the Connections creators include a group of words that appear very straightforward to most individuals. However, selecting them might result in a strike, which you should reserve for situations where you are genuinely uncertain about a few clues.

The challenging part is that occasionally the most apparent group of four is indeed one of the correct options (typically at the yellow or green levels).

An alternative approach is to identify the four hints you believe form a clear group. Emphasize them by highlighting the words without clicking submit. Then, examine the grid again to see if anything else catches your attention.

Frequently, these very obvious sets are actually scattered individually among the four groups. So, if you spot Wick, Neo, Ted, and Mnemonic, you might instantly associate them with Keanu Reeves films, but that’s a deception. Instead, treat each word as a starting point to uncover different links.
